Comfort, Faith, and Hope: Duruflé’s “Requiem”

A few months ago, I had the wonderful privilege to play horn in a performance of Duruflé’s exquisite Requiem. I was also asked to write the program notes for the concert, which are reproduced below (with a few minor revisions). A YouTube video and Spotify playlist at the bottom of the page provide recordings of two different arrangements of the piece: one for chorus and full orchestra, and another for chorus, chamber orchestra, and organ. (These program notes were written for a performance of the original, full orchestra version).
